Mutating Spike

Raph was talking to spike after his training. “I don’t get why we have to be ninjas! I mean we are only 5! Why do we have to train now?” Raph said. Spike nodded his head and chewed on his leaf. Donnie poked his head in the kitchen to see the two turtles he needed to see. He smiled widely like he did something bad. “Hey Raph! How are you doing?” Donnie said with a big smile. “What do you want, Donnie?” Raph asked knowing his little brother. “I want to mutate spike to be like us! I mean come on! You talk to him all the time and he chews on his leaf! But when he is mutated he can talk to you and play with you! It’s a win and win situation! A win for you to have a new friend and a win for me to have some fun with science and mutating his DNA!” Donnie said dropping his smile. Raph glanced over to spike. He did want a friend who would understand him. Raph turned back to Donnie who smiled a little. Raph shook his head. He always laughed at his gappy smile. “Okay…..you can do it but don’t hurt him, okay?” Raph said. “Okay! Don’t worry! It won’t hurt one bit! I just need to set up my lab and get him and set him up and set my lab up some more and he will be like us in no time!” Donnie said. He ran to his lab with a big grin. Raph turned to Spike and smiled. “Are you excited that you will be like me, Spike?” Raph asked. “No…but it is YOUR decision” a voice said. “Wow! You can talk?!?!” Raph said in disbelief. “No he cannot talk but your father can” the voice said. Raph turned around to see Master Splinter standing behind him. “Why don’t you want him like us, Daddy?” Raph asked. “Well there are a lot of reasons, my son. The first one is that there is barely enough food for our family now, so with another one it would be challenging to feed everyone” Splinter said.  Raph hadn’t thought of that. He just thought that he would eat leaves like he always did. “Where would he sleep? There is no room for him and there are no beds for him to sleep in” Splinter said. Raph hadn’t thought about that either. He just thought he would sleep in his box like he did now. “What will he do? What if he is like you say Michelangelo is? You would not like that would you?” Splinter said. “No…I didn’t think about that…or any of it! I guess you are right, Daddy, but what do I tell Donnie?” Raph said. Donnie came back and grabbed spike and was about to leave until Raph stopped him. “No! I change my mind! I like him how he is now!” Raph said. “Oh…ok…well he is your pet” Donnie said sad. He handed Raph Spike and left to clean up the lab again. Splinter left to meditate and Raph smiled. “I am glad you are just a turtle” Raph said. Then the weirdest thing happened. Spike smiled to Raph.
